Water:
The most important
supplement but often the most neglected

Water facts...
No matter where
you live, a wet region or a dry region, pure drinking water is of
utmost importance to your body.
The
average human has about 50 quarts of water in his or her body. Most of
this water is found between the cells, bathing and lubricating them.
The
wettest part of the body—blood—is 83% water; the
driest – tooth enamel – is 2 percent. (From
The
Cousteau almanac: An inventory of life on our water planet .)
Only
1% of the world’s water is drinkable, the remaining 99% is
either unusable seawater or ice. There won’t be more water,
or new water, just the same molecules, used or stored, evaporated or
frozen, re-circulated and reused by human and beast, for better or
worse, forever. (Does this make you think, “What
can I do to help protect our water sources? ”)
The Importance of Water...
I know most of us
have heard that we need to drink 8-10 glasses a day. WOW! That seems like
a lot.
I know it
has been hard for me to drink that much, but once I found out
how much water does for me, I decided it was worth the effort...
One
glass of water shuts down the midnight hunger
pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.
- The
lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime
fatigue.
- A
mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy
short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen , or on a printed page.
- Drinking
5 glasses of water daily decreases the
risk
of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder
cancer.
- 75%
of Americans are chronically dehydrated; this
likely applies to half the world population.
- In
37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so
weak
that it is often mistaken for hunger. Even MILD dehydration will slow
down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.
- Preliminary
research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80%
of sufferers.
As
I was reading information about our
body and water, I was amazed at how much it really does for us.
I am a Physics teacher and have been involved with science
pretty much all my life, but i was blissfully unaware of so much of
this information.
Water:
- washes
our
cells
- helps
us maintain a good thinking process
- helps
us maintain a
healthy weight or lose excess weight
- and
helps our body maintain good
health in all ways
All
this with the simple process of drinking good
water, something we take for granted.

One more step towards a healthier you....
Think
about it.
The
choice is yours.
One
more piece in the puzzle of good
health. The body will maintain optimal health if we only give it what
it needs.
Water is one of the most
important things your body needs.
Just
a word of caution, not all
water is of equal quality. Pure water is amazing; however, if your
water is toxic or polluted the benefits of getting more water might be
outweighed by the harmful effects of the toxins.
Most
of us don’t like water because it has a strange taste.
We
CAN get rid of that.

Much of the
information on this page can be attributed to the work of Dr. Feyedoon
Batmanghelidj, a London-educated physician who was a political prisoner
in Iran in 1979. His job was to provide medical care for the thousands
of prisoners who were awaiting trial or in some cases, execution.
It was there
that he collected more
than 3,000 case histories of people who he feels were remarkably helped
by drinking increased amounts of water and whose variety of ailments he
felt were related to dehydration. He is the author of a book titled,
Your
Body's Many Cries for Water .
To quote Dr. Batmanghelidj:
"Who in
his/her right mind would want to take toxic chemicals when all that
their body needs is water -- free water -- natural water, the ultimate
medication of choice to cure pain and prevent disease?"
The cancer statistics are from
Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and British
researchers. Some of the information draws upon research from the
University of Utah, Connecticut, cardiologist Stephen T. Sinatra, M.D.,
author of Optimum
Health: A Natural Lifesaving Prescription for Your Body and Mind , the
University of Washington, Baylor College of Medicine, and others.
